According to multiple outlets, Reggie Barlow informed the DC Defenders just next week before the season kicks off, that he is departing the team, to reportedly accept the head coaching vacancy at Tennessee State.
Barlow was heading to his third season as DC Defenders’ head coach, compiling a 13-7 record, guiding them to a13-7, winning an XFL North titletitled appreacnxe in the XFL Championship Game.
Barlow enjenjoyed an ht-year NFL career in which he played as a receiver and return specialist for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Tampa Bay BucBuccaneersn 1998 Barlow set a still-standing NFL record for punt return yrayardsth 553 and was named a Pro Bowl alternate. He won Super XXXVII, putting the perfect capstone on his NFL career.
He returned to his alma mater, Alabama State, in 2005 as quarterbacks coach, a role he would serve in until 2007, wen he was promoted to head coach. He would record a 49-42 record over the next 7 seasons leading the Hornets to three consecutive SWAC East crowns (2010-12).
In 2016 Barlow was tapped to lead Virginia State’s football program. He compiled a 34-15 overall record and 25-10 within the CIAA. In 2017 Coach Barlow led VSU to their first undefeated season at 10-0, defeating Fayetteville State to claim the CIAA and a berth in the Division II Playoffs. He resigned in March 2022 to take the head coach position with the DC Defenders.
