Week 7 Dr. Cavil’s Inside the HBCU Sports Lab Mid Major Women’s Basketball Top 5

Week 7 of Dr. Cavil’s Inside the HBCU Sports Lab Mid Major Division Top 5 saw no new entrants , a new team is now seated on the throne atop the rankings. 

5.Fayetteville State Lady Broncos (20-4, 18-3)

The Lady Broncos stay at No.5 in the Week 7 rankings. FSU is coming off a perfect week, defeating Shaw 73-57 on February 9 and thrashing Livingstone 81-55 on February 12. The Lady Broncos currently are second in the CIAA, trailing only Winston-Salem State. 

4.Miles College Lady Golden Bears (18-3, 12-2)

Just as was the case a week prior, the Lady Golden Bears of Miles College occupy the 4th spot in the weekly rankings. Miles completed an unblemished week, defeating Allen 75-61 on February 7, following that with a 60-55 win over Albany State on February 11 to close out the week. Miles currently sits atop the SIAC’s Western Division. 

3.Edward Waters Lady Tigers ( 20-4, 18-3)

Edward Waters is the third team to hang on to its ranking from the previous week. The Lady Tigers only took the court once last week and they made quite the statement, with an 89-49 shellacking of Albany State on February 7, sweeping the series against the Golden Rams, having thoroughly beaten them 71-42 on December 13, The Lady Tigers lead the SIAC East. 

2. Langston Lady Lions ( 23-3, 17-3)

The Lady Lions fell a spot in this week’s rankings to No.2 Langston completed an undefeated week, running off wins against Science & Arts (Okla) and Wayland Baptist on February 7 and 9, respectively. The Lady Lions are currently leading the Sooner Athletic Conference. 

1.Winston Salem State Lady Rams (22-2, 13-1)

Winston-Salem State moves up one position from last week to claim the pole position in Week 7 of Dr. Cavil’s Inside the HBCU Sports Lab Mid-Major Division Top 5. The Lady Rams are coming off a busy week in which they took the court 4 times. They began the week with a 50-36 win over Fayetteville State on February 7. Up next was a 76-60 defeat of Livingstone on February 10, and closing the week with a 55-40 win over Claflin on February 12.
