According to reports circulating around league circles, Portland’s treatment of former interim head coach Tiago Splitter left many NBA coaches unimpressed. The concerns reportedly stemmed from contract negotiations in which Splitter was allegedly offered a below-market deal while the organization simultaneously explored other coaching candidates during the team’s playoff run.
While front offices routinely evaluate coaching options, the timing and optics of interviewing potential replacements while a coach is still leading a team in postseason competition have reportedly raised eyebrows throughout the league.
For many coaches, organizational commitment matters just as much as salary. The perception that ownership may be prioritizing cost-cutting measures over investing in coaching infrastructure could create challenges when attempting to attract highly sought-after candidates.
