Spurs Sign Tobias Harris to Two-Year, $31 Million Deal

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, veteran forward Tobias Harris has agreed to a two-year, $31 million contract with the Spurs, giving San Antonio another proven veteran as the franchise looks to build on its Western Conference championship and make another run at an NBA title.

Harris arrives in San Antonio after spending last season with the Detroit Pistons, where he averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while providing the steady, dependable play that has defined his 15-year NBA career.

While Harris may no longer be an All-Star-level scorer, he remains one of the league’s most reliable complementary forwards. His ability to stretch the floor, defend multiple positions, and score without dominating the ball makes him an ideal fit alongside Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, and the Spurs’ talented young core.

San Antonio has been among the most active teams this offseason, prioritizing experienced veterans who complement their emerging stars rather than chasing splashy headline moves. Harris fits that blueprint perfectly, bringing more than 100 career playoff appearances and a reputation as one of the NBA’s consummate professionals.

The addition gives head coach Mitch Johnson another versatile frontcourt option capable of playing either forward position while providing valuable leadership in a locker room with championship expectations.

With Harris now in the fold, the Spurs continue to position themselves as one of the NBA’s deepest and most balanced teams entering the 2026-27 season.

What It Means
This signing may not generate the same buzz as some of free agency’s blockbuster deals, but it could prove to be one of the smartest. Championship contenders often win on the margins, and Harris gives San Antonio another dependable veteran capable of making winning plays on both ends of the floor.
If the Spurs’ young stars continue their ascent, Harris could be another key piece in what the organization hopes is a championship puzzle.
