Project B Hires Former Hawks GM Landry Fields as Head of Men’s Basketball

Project B continues to build its leadership team ahead of its inaugural season, announcing Thursday that former Atlanta Hawks general manager Landry Fields has been named the league’s head of men’s basketball.

In his new role, Fields will oversee men’s player recruitment, basketball operations and roster development while working alongside chief basketball officer Alana Beard. The addition brings NBA front office experience to the ambitious startup league as it expands into the men’s game.

“Landry understands the game from every angle,” Beard said in a statement. “He’s been a player, he’s built teams, and he knows culture doesn’t happen by accident.”

Fields played five NBA seasons with the New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors before transitioning into basketball operations. He joined the Atlanta Hawks as assistant general manager in 2020 and was promoted to general manager in 2022, serving in that role until 2025.

Project B has already generated significant buzz on the women’s side, securing commitments from stars including Azzi Fudd, Nneka Ogwumike, Alyssa Thomas, Jonquel Jones, Jewell Loyd and Awa Fam. The league plans to launch men’s and women’s competitions together, featuring six teams that will compete across Europe and Asia from January through April, with Valencia, Spain, and Tokyo among the announced host cities.

Fields said the league’s vision and commitment to developing global basketball talent made the opportunity an easy decision.

With another high-profile executive now in place, Project B continues to position itself as an innovative alternative on the international basketball landscape ahead of its highly anticipated debut.
