Notre Dame Athletics has reportedly reached a landmark sponsorship agreement with financial technology company SoFi that is expected to become the richest jersey patch deal in college athletics history.
According to Pete Nakos of On3, the six-year agreement is valued at $18–20 million annually, giving Notre Dame a lucrative new revenue stream as college athletics continues to evolve in the NIL and revenue-sharing era.
The sponsorship comes after the NCAA approved the use of corporate jersey patches, allowing athletic departments to capitalize on one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in sports branding.
Under the agreement, SoFi’s logo will appear on Notre Dame athletic uniforms, further expanding the company’s presence in sports after previous partnerships with organizations including the NFL and the naming rights to SoFi Stadium.
If finalized as reported, the deal would establish a new benchmark for collegiate jersey sponsorships, surpassing other recently announced agreements across the college sports landscape.
For Notre Dame, the partnership represents another significant financial victory as the Fighting Irish continue to leverage one of the most recognizable brands in college athletics. The additional revenue is expected to help support athletic department operations at a time when schools are navigating increased financial commitments tied to athlete compensation and the changing economics of college sports.
As corporate partnerships become more prevalent across the NCAA, Notre Dame’s agreement with SoFi could serve as a blueprint for other major athletic programs looking to maximize sponsorship opportunities.
While jersey advertisements were once viewed as unlikely in college sports, the historic Notre Dame-SoFi agreement underscores how rapidly the business side of college athletics continues to evolve.
What do you think? Will jersey patch sponsorships become commonplace across college athletics, or should schools limit corporate branding on their uniforms?
