The video, originally posted by the league’s official social media accounts, showed Bueckers and Reese seemingly agreeing to a $400 bet on the outcome of their game. The post was quickly removed after fans questioned whether it conflicted with the WNBA’s gambling policies.
Despite the controversy, Costabile reports that neither player will face any punishment.
The incident sparked widespread discussion because the WNBA maintains strict rules regarding sports betting and gambling activities. However, there is no indication that the league found Bueckers or Reese violated its policies. Instead, the focus has shifted toward the league’s decision to publish the content before ultimately deleting it.
Earlier this week, a WNBA spokesperson acknowledged the mistake, saying the post “was intended to be lighthearted,” but admitted it “missed the mark.” The league said it removed the video shortly after it was published and addressed the matter internally.
