Could Nikola Jokić one day leave the NBA for Europe?
That question resurfaced after Panathinaikos owner Dimitrios Giannakopoulos publicly stated that he is “very serious” about pursuing the Denver Nuggets superstar whenever the opportunity presents itself.
According to Giannakopoulos, he even approached the Nuggets about the possibility of buying out the final year of Jokić’s contract. The proposal reportedly went nowhere, with Denver rejecting the idea.
While the comments have generated plenty of buzz among basketball fans, there is currently no indication that Jokić is preparing to leave the NBA.
The three-time NBA Most Valuable Player has consistently expressed his commitment to the Nuggets organization. Earlier this offseason, Jokić said he expects to sign a contract extension with Denver next summer, reinforcing his desire to continue his career with the franchise that drafted him in 2014.
Still, the possibility of one of Europe’s most decorated clubs targeting the Serbian superstar has fueled speculation about what could happen later in his career. Before becoming an NBA champion and one of the league’s greatest players, Jokić began his professional career in Serbia, making the idea of finishing his playing career in Europe a topic that continues to intrigue fans.
For now, however, Jokić remains firmly focused on the Nuggets, and any move to Panathinaikos remains purely speculative.
