DeWanna Bonner and the Phoenix Mercury have agreed to a contract buyout, the team announced Monday.
Bonner, 38, returned to Phoenix in 2025 after beginning her WNBA career with the Mercury as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft. She spent her first 10 seasons with the franchise before being traded to the Connecticut Sun in 2020.
The six-time WNBA All-Star and two-time WNBA champion re-signed with Phoenix in April for her 17th WNBA season.
During her 2025 return to Phoenix, Bonner averaged 10.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in 24 games while providing veteran production off the bench. She also ranks among the WNBA’s all-time leaders in scoring, games played and free throws made.
The buyout brings another chapter of Bonner’s remarkable career in Phoenix to a close and gives the veteran forward an opportunity to determine her next move as the 2026 WNBA season continues.
Bonner remains one of the most accomplished players in league history, having won championships with Phoenix in 2009 and 2014 while earning six All-Star selections and two All-WNBA honors.
