ORLANDO, Fla. — UCF opened the 2026 season with a historic display of dominance Thursday night, overwhelming Bethune-Cookman 73-6 in one of the most lopsided results in the Knights’ recent history. The defeat marked a difficult season debut for the Wildcats, who struggled to match UCF’s pace on either side of the ball.
UCF quickly amassed a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, setting the tone with an explosive start and maintaining control throughout the game. The Knight built a 38-0 lead at the break and despite the second half being protracted garbage time, continued to pour it on. By the time Wildcats finally broke the seal on their side of the scoring ledger( via an 8-yard scoring pass from Joel Morris to Kobe Stewart ) UCF had piled up 73 points. The 67-point margin ranked among the largest in UCF program history and gave the Knights a record-setting opening statement to begin the season.UCF’s defense also delivered a dominant performance, forcing Bethune-Cookman into difficult situations and keeping the Wildcats out of the end zone for most of the night.
Central Florida racked up 560 yards of total offense, including 360 on the ground, while limiting B-CU to just 181. The Wildcats also struggled mightily 3rd down, going just 3-of-16 on conversions, while their opponent was 5-of-8 on the evening.
Despite the lopsided result, the Wildcats now turn their attention toward the remainder of the season and the opportunity to regroup. Bethune-Cookman will look to correct its early mistakes, improve its execution and build momentum in its next matchup.
For UCF, the victory provided a powerful start to the 2026 campaign and established the Knights as one of the night’s most dominant teams. The program will now look to carry that momentum into conference play and the rest of the season.
