LSU is making a decisive move in the ongoing controversy surrounding former NFL players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, LSU is adding two players to its football roster, bringing the Tigers to the NCAA maximum of 105 players. The move will effectively lock LSU’s roster for the remainder of the season and prevent the program from adding Wright and Harris.
The two former Ole Miss players had been at the center of a legal and eligibility battle after both briefly signed with NFL teams before seeking to return to college football.
A Louisiana judge previously issued a preliminary injunction clearing the way for Wright, Harris and other athletes in similar situations to return to college competition.
Despite that ruling, LSU left both players off its roster for the season-opening victory over Clemson. The Tigers instead chose a cautious approach while the legal battle with the SEC continued.
Now, by filling the final two roster spots, LSU appears to be closing the door on adding Wright and Harris for the 2026 season.
A Major Development in the LSU-SEC Fight
The roster decision comes at a particularly significant moment.
The SEC has escalated its legal battle with LSU, filing an amended federal complaint seeking the authority to expel the Tigers from the conference. SEC presidents and chancellors are scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss LSU’s membership, with a two-thirds vote required for expulsion.
The dispute centers largely on LSU’s handling of former professional athletes, including Wright and Harris, and the SEC’s position that its member schools must follow conference rules prohibiting players with prior professional contracts from returning to college competition.
LSU’s latest roster decision could therefore remove one of the biggest immediate flashpoints in the dispute: the possibility of Wright and Harris actually taking the field for the Tigers.
For Wright and Harris, however, the decision represents a significant setback. With LSU’s roster now at the 105-player limit, their path back to college football in Baton Rouge is effectively closed for the remainder of the season unless circumstances change.
The situation remains fluid, particularly with the SEC’s legal action and Thursday’s scheduled meeting looming.
For now, though, LSU has made its roster decision: 105 players, no Wright, and no Harris.
