Jordan Brand is bringing one of its most unconventional Air Jordan hybrids to the public.
The “Black/Barely Volt” Air Jordan 4028 is officially set to release October 2, 2026, giving sneakerheads an opportunity to grab the same colorway that became part of NBA history on the feet of Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo.
The shoe carries the style code IR2084-001 and will retail for $200. Nike has confirmed the release through its SNKRS launch calendar, with select retailers also expected to carry the shoe.
The Air Jordan 40 Meets the Air Jordan XX8
The Air Jordan 4028 is exactly what its name suggests: a hybrid of the Air Jordan 40 and the Air Jordan XX8.
The Air Jordan 40 provides the performance foundation, while the XX8 supplies the unmistakable high-top shroud and zipper construction that made Russell Westbrook’s signature model one of the more distinctive basketball sneakers of its era.
The exterior arrives predominantly in black, with a patent-leather toe and black upper materials. Opening or folding down the shroud reveals the sneaker’s Barely Volt accents, including the tongue, laces and interior details. An icy translucent outsole completes the look.
The performance platform is equally notable. The Air Jordan 40 introduced a full-length Zoom Strobel setup paired with full-length ZoomX foam, while the 4028 adds the XX8-inspired upper treatment on top of that platform.
The Bam Adebayo Connection 👀
This particular colorway already has a place in basketball history.
Adebayo wore the Black/Barely Volt Air Jordan 4028 when he exploded for 83 points against the Washington Wizards, producing one of the most memorable individual scoring performances of the 2025–26 NBA season.
That performance helped turn the previously unreleased sneaker into one of the more recognizable Air Jordan 4028 colorways.
The retail version arriving October 2 is the Black/Barely Volt pair associated with that performance, although Jordan Brand also produced a separate PE version featuring additional Bam-specific detailing.

Why the 4028 Is Different
The Air Jordan 4028 isn’t simply another Air Jordan 40 colorway.
Jordan Brand has used the model to revisit one of the more experimental designs from the franchise’s history while keeping the underlying performance technology modern.
The XX8’s tall zippered shroud becomes the defining visual element, while the Air Jordan 40’s ZoomX/Zoom Strobel platform provides the performance base.
It’s essentially 2013 Jordan Brand design language meeting 2026 basketball technology.
And with Adebayo’s 83-point performance permanently attached to this colorway, the Black/Barely Volt 4028 arrives with a story already built into it.
