BATON ROUGE, La. — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff didn’t just spoil Southern University’s homecoming.
The Golden Lions took over.
UAPB erased an early 10-7 deficit and scored 34 unanswered points, rolling past Southern 41-10 Saturday night at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
Southern entered the game looking to protect home turf, but UAPB completely flipped the script after the first quarter. The Golden Lions scored in every quarter after the opening frame and shut Southern out over the final three quarters. (UA Pine Bluff Athletics)
🦁 GARRISON DAVIS PUT ON A SHOW
UAPB quarterback Garrison Davis was in control all night.
Davis finished:
- 15-of-22 passing
- 154 passing yards
- 4 touchdown passes
- 0 interceptions
- 92 rushing yards on 8 carries
That’s 246 total yards accounted for by Davis, with five different Golden Lions touchdowns coming through the air or on the ground. Davis connected with Demetric Whitlock Jr., D’Avery Robinson twice and Bryce Robinson for touchdowns through the air.
UAPB RAN WILD
The Golden Lions gashed Southern’s defense for 299 rushing yards on just 31 carries — an eye-popping 9.6 yards per carry.
Jalen Williams added 78 rushing yards on only three carries, including a 66-yard burst. Za’Marion Webber chipped in 59 yards on 10 carries, while Jaylen Jennings scored UAPB’s third-quarter rushing touchdown.
UAPB finished with:
- 453 total yards
- 299 rushing yards
- 154 passing yards
- 8.2 yards per play
Southern managed just 318 total yards and 4.7 yards per play.
SPECIAL TEAMS WERE A PROBLEM
One of the biggest stories of the night was Jalen Williams in the return game. Williams ripped off 167 kickoff return yards on three returns, averaging 55.7 yards per return.
His longest return went 74 yards.
Those returns repeatedly gave UAPB excellent field position and helped set up scoring drives. In fact, UAPB started drives at the Southern 41 and Southern 40 after Williams’ first two kickoff returns.
That’s a recipe for disaster.

It simply didn’t matter.
UAPB was far more explosive.
THE TURNING POINT
Southern led 10-7 after the first quarter.
Then UAPB took over.
The Golden Lions scored a touchdown early in the second quarter to go ahead 14-10, added a field goal before halftime, then opened the second half with another field goal.
From there?
Touchdown.
Touchdown.

UAPB went from trailing 10-7 to leading 41-10, scoring the final 34 points of the game.
HOMECOMING SPOILED
Southern came into the game having won four of the previous five meetings, although UAPB defeated the Jaguars 40-21 last season.
UAPB has started a streak of their on in this ongoing series.
UAPB leaves Baton Rouge with a statement victory and a 41-10 demolition of the Jaguars on their own homecoming night.
