Miami Heat Unveil Updated Dwyane Wade Statue After Original Face Drew Criticism

The Miami Heat have given Dwyane Wade’s statue a makeover, unveiling an updated version of the franchise legend’s tribute outside Kaseya Center.

The original statue, unveiled in October 2024, quickly became a viral topic across social media. While the tribute celebrated one of the most iconic moments in Heat history, its facial likeness drew widespread criticism from basketball fans.

Following the backlash, the original sculptors worked on an updated head and face, with Wade’s approval. The revised version offers a closer resemblance to the three-time NBA champion.

Wade also shared his perspective on what the statue represents, posting:

“It may be my likeness, but it will always be our house.”

The statue commemorates Wade’s legendary March 9, 2009 performance against the Chicago Bulls. After hitting a game-winning three-pointer in double overtime, Wade jumped onto the scorer’s table and delivered his now-iconic declaration:

“This is my house!”

Wade previously explained that the moment represented the biggest individual moment of his basketball career. He wanted the statue to capture a celebration that embodied his journey with Miami.

The connection between Wade and the Heat runs much deeper than one memorable shot. He led the franchise to three NBA championships (2006, 2012 and 2013), earned 13 All-Star selections and captured the 2006 NBA Finals MVP award.

Now, with the updated statue, the Heat have another opportunity to properly celebrate the legacy of one of the greatest players in franchise history.

The likeness may belong to Wade, but as he made clear, the house belongs to everyone who helped build Heat Culture.
