Lonzo Ball is apparently not ready to call it a career.
After comments from the latest episode of the Ball in the Family podcast sparked reports that the former No. 2 overall pick had retired from the NBA, Ball took to X Wednesday to set the record straight.
“I retired? News to me lol cuz I’m still waiting for a call… NBA season long 🤷🏻♂️”
Ball’s response came after comments about his nine-year NBA career were widely interpreted as a retirement announcement. He reflected on everything he had endured throughout his career and said he felt like he had given everything he had to basketball.
But Ball’s latest message makes his current position clear: he is still waiting for an NBA team to call.
The 28-year-old guard spent his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers. After his Cleveland season, Ball entered free agency and remains without a team as the 2026-27 NBA season approaches.
Ball’s career has been heavily affected by knee injuries, including multiple surgeries and extended periods away from the court. He returned to the NBA with Cleveland last season, appearing in 35 games, averaging 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assist in 20.8 minutes per contest.
For now, despite the retirement reports, Lonzo Ball says he’s still looking for his next NBA opportunity.
