Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell is providing an encouraging update as he continues recovering from a frightening neck injury suffered during Sunday’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
Campbell released a statement Wednesday through the Lions, offering his first detailed public comments since being transported to a local hospital following the injury.
“I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time,” Campbell said. “I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body.”
While acknowledging that his recovery journey is not over, the All-Pro linebacker expressed optimism about his progress.
“I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.”
A Frightening Moment in Detroit
Campbell suffered the neck injury early in the fourth quarter of Detroit’s 19-15 victory over Minnesota on Sunday, November 1.
The 26-year-old linebacker was injured while making a tackle on Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. He remained down on the field as medical personnel attended to him before he was placed on a backboard and carefully transported off the field.
He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for evaluation and monitoring.
The Lions announced Monday that Campbell remained hospitalized, adding that preliminary indications were positive.
Campbell Thanks Medical Personnel, Teammates and Fans
In his statement, Campbell expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he and his family have received since the injury.
He specifically thanked the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded on the field, along with the medical team at Henry Ford Hospital and the Lions’ medical staff.
Campbell also credited his faith, family, teammates and the Detroit community for providing encouragement throughout the difficult experience.
“One thing I’ve learned about Detroit is that this city is built on toughness, resilience, and grit. That’s exactly how I’m going to approach this challenge.”
He closed by asking fans to continue keeping him and his family in their prayers.
Looking Ahead
Campbell’s latest update provides an encouraging development following an incident that understandably concerned the Lions organization, his teammates and NFL fans.
However, his statement does not provide a specific diagnosis, recovery timeline or potential return date.
For now, the focus remains on his continued recovery.
Sneaker Shop Talk will continue monitoring Campbell’s progress and provide updates as more information becomes available.
