BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 1, 2019)– The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) kicked off the semifinal round for the 2019 SIAC Basketball Tournament.
Game 18 (Women) No. 7 Kentucky State 46, No. 1 Tuskegee 40

Kentucky State handled business by knocking off top seeded Tuskegee in a thrilling 46-40 overtime win. Senior Brooke Wallace was the Thorobreds only player to notch double-digits with 14 points and 12 rebounds. This will be KSUs fourth championship game appearance since their entrance into the league in 1997. During the matchup, the Thorobreds defensive efforts kept the Golden Tigers’ leading scorer, Alexis Carter, to only five points. Shelle Daniels of Tuskegee led the Golden Tigers’ offense posting 13 points and eight rebounds. Tuskegee falls to 20-7 on the season as Kentucky State will advance to the championship game scheduled for Saturday, March 2 at 4 p.m.
Game 19 (Men) No. 1 Miles 65, No. 2 Albany State 59

Miles had a strong showing in the tournament defeating eastern division opponent, Albany State, 65-59. The Golden Bears had four players in double-digits to account for 72% of their total points as Devonte Fuller led the field putting up 13 points and six rebounds. Miles’ defensive efforts kept the Golden Rams shooting 38% from the field while the Golden Bears enjoyed scoring 30 points in the paint. Senior Jared Harrington led his team scoring 22 points shooting 63% from the field and 83% from the free throw line. Albany State falls to 14-16 on the season as Miles will advance to the championship game on Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. This contest will be the Golden Bears’ first appearance in the championship game since their 2005-06 campaign where they fell to Stillman.
Game 20 (Women) No. 4 Lane 53, No. 6 Central State 37

Lane continues their historic run defeating No. 6 western division opponent, Central State, 53-37 and clinching their spot in the 2019 SIAC Women’s Basketball Championship Game. This marks the first time Lane will make their debut in a championship game. Three of Lane’s players notched double digits being led by Chasity Moore who posted 14 points and eight rebounds. Central State fought hard, but Lane’s defense kept them shooting 19.6% from the field and 22.2% from behind the arc. Central State’s point guard, Takyra Gilbert, led the Marauders’ offensive efforts posting 10 points and four rebounds. Central State falls to 12-17 on the season as Lane College advances to the championship game on Saturday, March 2 at 4 p.m. where they will face Kentucky State.
Game 21 (Men) No. 2 LeMoyne-Owen 65, No. 5 Paine 58

LeMoyne-Owen solidified their spot in the championship game after defeating Paine in a thrilling overtime win, 65-58. During the contest, Paine led most of the game with their largest lead coming in the second half as they led the Magicians by 13. Toriano Stokes led the Magicians’ offensive efforts posting 23 points. LeMoyne-Owen pushed back in the second half shooting 50% from the floor and defensively handling Paine to keep them to shooting only 38.5% in the second half tying the game, 52-52. LeMoyne-Owen opened overtime with an eight-point run to start which was the largest lead for the Magicians during the game. As the Lions battled back, Charles Moore led his team with a game-high 24 points, but the historic streak came to an abrupt end pushing Paine to 9-19 on the season. LeMoyne-Owen will advance to the championship game which will be their sixth appearance since 1990 to face western division foe, Miles College, on Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m.
