The Alabama A&M University men’s basketball team returned home for the first time this month and had four players post double figures in scoring, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a big first-half deficit in a 97-90 loss to Samford on Saturday inside the AAMU Event Center.

Alabama A&M (4-7) trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half and got as close as five points with less than a minute to play but could not rally as Samford held on for the road win.

AC Bryant finished with a career-high 22 points, including four 3-pointers, four rebounds, one steal, one assist and one blocked shot to pace Alabama A&M. Bilal Abdur-Rahman added career-highs of points (21) and assists (10), along with two rebounds, while Lorenzo Downey and Quincy McGriff each chipped in 13 points.

Trey Fort scored 20 of his game-high 27 points in the first half, along with five rebounds and one steal. Collin Holloway added 16 points, while Julian Brown and Rylan Jones tossed in 14 and 13 points, respectively, Jaden Brownwell added 10 points.
