The Albany State University Men’s basketball team ( 7-14, 5-7) suffered a tough loss to the Cougars of Columbus State University ( 14-6, 5-5) Monday evening.
The Golden Rams were up 36-34 at the end of the first half and would continue to hold the advantage in the second half, pushing the lead to 17 points at 55-38 when Maxwell Harris sank a pair of free throws with 13:46 to go in the contest. Over the ensuing nearly twelve minutes, Columbus State would outscore Albany State 37-20, tying the game at 75 on a Nelson Haskin free throw.
Langston Gaither knocked down a three-pointer with 28 ticks left in the game to put the Cougars up 78-75, which was their first time out front since leading 22-21 with 10:34 to go in the first half.
The Rams’ subsequent field goal attempts were no good, including a costly pair of misses from the foul line with six seconds to go, leaving the final score at 78-75 and a bitter loss for the Albany State Golden Rams.
Albany State will look to regroup and get back in the win column when they will host Savannah State February 7. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM EST.
