Albany State put in a valiant effort but ultimately fell to Benedict, 63-54 Monday night in Columbia, SC.

The Golden Rams scored the first bucket of the night on a Maurice DIckson layup on their intial possession of the game and led up until the 11:06 mark of the half, when Tim Moore’s layup put the Tigers up 10-9. Benedict showed the way for nearly the rest of the half , until Albany State briefly retaking command at 25-24 on a Maurice DIckson free throw, with 0:29 left in the half. A Brandon Smith free throw would knot the game at 25 and that is where they score would be as the teams left the floor for halftime.

Albany State played uphill for the entiriety of the seconf drawing as close as a single point twice, at 50-49 and 51-50, but were unable to get over the hump, and despite the valiant effort, ultimately came up nine points short, 63-54.

Benedict (15-9, 13-5 SIAC) was able to limit the Rams to just 30.5% ( 18-59) from the floor and just 26.1% (6-23) from downtown. Malachi McCoy led the Tigers with 16 points, many of them coming on above-the-rim throwdowns, and 10 rebounds. Tim Moore, the other Tiger in double figures, added 13 points and 5 rebounds.

Maruice Dickson and Terin Woffard paces the Golden Rams with 12 points apiece; Wofford also added 8 rebounds.

Up next for the Golden Rams is their Basketball Homecoming on February 11 when they will host Fort Valley; tip-off time is scheduled for 6:00 PM EST.
