ALBANY, Ga. – Albany State racked up 429 yards of offense to defeat the Edward Waters, 30-0, for Homecoming at the Albany State University Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
ASU (5-1, 2-0 SIAC) quarterback Dionte Bonneau exploded for 283 yards passing, going 14-of-23 with three touchdowns.
Joe Shorter had the longest play of the game in a 66-yard touchdown reception and Rashad Jordan added in 56 yards receiving while Kristian Grant chipped in 55 yards.
The ASU ground game was balanced with Kam Ward gaining 54 yards on the ground and Marcuis Fulks adding in 55 yards.
Stephan Pierre, the reigning SIAC Defensive Player of the Week, collected 13 tackles including one tackle-for-loss. Brandarious Rawlings collected seven tackles while Coemba Jones had five.
ASU punter Gabriel Ballinas averaged 44.5 yards on four kicks with two stopping inside the 20-yard-line and a long of 65 yards.
For EWU (2-4), Devin Bailes gained 54 yards on the ground while De’Shaun Hughes collected 40. EWU quarterback Cedquan Smith went 14-of-26 for 104 yards passing.
Andrew Powers led the Tigers defense with 10 tackles while Drey Powell added seven.
Fulks scored first for the Rams with 10:15 left in the first quarter. Joe Shorter then scored to start the second quarter with a 66-yard bomb from Bonneau. To end the first half, Ballinas hit a 42-yard field goal. Shorter would score again on a 53-yard strike from Bonneau. Bonneau would close out the scoring in the third quarter at 7:23 with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Kristian Grant.
