It was a tough day at the office for the Albany State Golden Rams. ASU was on the wrong side of a 48-16 beatdown courtesy of West Georgia University.
The Wolves came out of the gate on fire, scoring touchdowns on their first three possessions, two coming on touchdown passes from UWG quarterback Willie Candler and the third on a run from Candler. The Wolves would add another 7 points to their lead on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Candler to DeNiko Carter, taking a 28-0 lead into halftime.
UWG would continue to pile on the points, scoring early in the third quarter on a Travis Custis 7-yard run, making the score 35-0. With 6:23 remaining in the third, UWG’s Tevin Ison connected with Candler on a 28-yard TD pass bringing the score to 41-0. Albany State would finally get on the board when the ensuing PAT was blocked and returned 98-yards making the score 41-2.
The Rams got in the end zone for the first time when Chris Hunt pulled in a 17 yard touchdown pass from Rams’ QB Chancellor Johnson to make the score 41-9 with the PAT. Albany State’s last score of the afternoon was courtesy of a Kelan Fraise 60-yard TD scamper. UWG’s Perry Sheldon’s 34-yard touchdown run ended the assault at 48-16.
The Rams defense was a sieve, giving up 509 yards, including 225 on the ground and they were on the field for over 34 minutes. The offense was only able to generate yards of total offense.
