Albany State Baseball recipient of Phil Niekro Scholarship Award

Courtesy of Albany State Athletics This past Saturday night Coach Hemmings was presented a check from the Atlanta 400 Baseball Fan Club (formerly Braves 400 Fan Club) in the amount of $1500.00.  The donation was a part of the Phil Niekro scholarship and is given annually to two college baseball programs.  This year’s award went to Albany State University and Oglethorpe University.  The checks were presented at the 400 Baseball Club’s annual Gameboree.  The evening begins with a silent auction followed by a dinner, where the 400-fan club gives away…

A pair of Golden Rams prepare to compete at D-II Track&Field Championships

The championships will be held May 25th-27th inside the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado with Colorado State University, Pueblo serving as host. A total of 754 participants, 377 men and 377 women, will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event. This weekend the Albany State baseball team ( 27-8, 24-2 ) will play host to the Throughbreds of Kentucky State (17-17, 15-9) for their final home series of the season. Savannah State shot better than Albany State from field, (48.0 % to 35.6%), from three, (57.1% to 15.4%) in defeating the Golden Rams 58-54 Saturday afternoon. The Albany State University women’s hoops team was handed a 72-53 loss at the hands of Allen University.
