This Saturday the Albany State Golden Rams head to Fairfield, AL to lock-horns with the tiles College Golden Bears. After dropping its first two games to SWAC opponents, a 14-13 overtime loss to Alabama State and 41-24 to Southern, Miles took that frustration out on conference foes defeating Morehouse and Central State by a combined margin of 92-16. Albany State also enters the Game with the sweet smell of victory, a 49-0 dismantling of Clark-Atlanta last week.
The Golden Ram defense will have their work ent out for them trying to slow down the Miles rushing attack. Lead by backs Dante Edwards (434 yards) and Kingston Davis, the Golden Bears ground game has piled up no fewer than 170 yards in any of their four games this season and asa team averaging 45 yards per carry.
Albany State can get it done on the ground as well, gaining at least 148 yards rushing in every game this season, with leading rusher Marcuis Fulks accounting for 290 of the team’s 761 yards on the season.
While Miles quarterback Claude Newell III has not put up out of this world numbers (531 yards, 4 touchdowns) he will have to continue to not turn the ball over, as he hasn’t thrown an interception this season. Newell and the Miles offense have a daunting task in dealing with a Golden Rams defense that is surrendering just 8.25 ppg on the season.
Prediction
Miles will compete hard but will be unable to penetrate the Albany State defense and fall behind early, which will lead them to have to take chances and will lead to mistakes that the ASU defense will take advantage of.
Final Score: Albany State 28, Miles College 10
