Alcorn State lands committment from 4-star prospect

According to livforhoops, Alcorn State has secured a committment from class of 2026 guard Josh Powell. 

Powell, a 4-star rated prospect by ESPN , averaged 21.4points at Archbishop Molly High school as a sophomore. He then followed that up with a strong showing at the 2024     CHSAA June Showcase with per game numbers of 17 points , 8 rebounds and 3 assists. 

Powell further raised his profile on the national scene on the summer circuit. Playing for the NY Jayhawks , he had a standout performance against the Rens United, tallying 24 points , 5 rebounds and 5 assists. 

NextNat1on cofounder and national recruiting scout has said this of in his analysis of Powell: 

“Josh is a dominant downhill SG, his ability to use his strength, and his body to control himself through contact is on another level for a High School Senior. 6’5 210lb, he’s also got a very good handle for an off guard who creates plenty of space to get to his spots in the mid range.” 

Powell, whose is the highest rated player to ever come to the Braves also generated considerable interest, with offers from Creighton, Norfolk State, Florida A&M, Bryant, Albany, New Mexico State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State , LSU, Illinois , and Arizona State.
