Anstey not ruling out coaching in NBL again

from nbl.com.au:

Two-time NBL MVP Chris Anstey has left the door open for a return to coaching at the professional level.

Anstey coached Melbourne Tigers/United from 2012-2014 but that stint ended on a sour note, when he stepped down as United coach one game into the 2014/15 season. He has since been coaching state representative teams and at state league level, and Anstey has told the NBL Rewind podcast he would potentially consider a return to the NBL sidelines.

“I learnt a long time ago to never say never to anything,” Anstey said about a coaching return.

“I love being around people who have got somewhere to get to and people I feel like I can help.

“In the last five years I’ve been a part of the Victorian U18 and U20 state programs, I was a very small part of the U19 national program with the boys.

“I’ve coached girls, that was a whole other level for me to develop as a coach, was to coach elite young females because it is slightly different. I would have been coaching senior women (if COVID-19 didn’t happen), it’s the one area of coaching that I’ve never challenged myself with and I’m really looking forward to seeing how that goes.

“I love coaching.”

Anstey thinks he is now better equipped to coach at the top level, after learning a valuable lesson from his first coaching journey in the NBL.

“One of the things I struggled with, because I got that coaching job so early, was trying to prove I deserve to be the coach,” Anstey said.

“I didn’t have to prove that to anyone. All I needed to do was take care of the players and make sure they’re ok and my time and energy was going into that.”
