The Mississippi Valley State University women’s basketball program only participated in one game last week, but Ariel Jefferson was impressive enough to lay claim to the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Newcomer of the Week honor.
Jefferson, a graduate student from Clarendon, Arkansas, set season-highs for minutes played (34), steals (3), free throws made (3), and three-pointers (2) in their 73-66 setback at Nicholls on Wednesday.
The Arkansas Baptist transfer finished in a three-way tie for the game’s most points at 15, was the sole steals queen on the night with a trio, brought in five rebounds including one on the offensive boards, and shot 41.7% (5-for-12) from the court.
Head Coach Jason James and the ladies are off this week for Thanksgiving break, returning to the hardwood on Tuesday in front of the Devilettes faithful versus Tarleton at 7 p.m. inside the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
