Alabama State wins 2024-25 SWAC Commissioner’s Cup

Courtesy of the Southwestern Athletic Conference The Alabama State University Athletics Department claimed two-of-three Southwestern Athletic Conference 2024-25 all-sports awards winning the James Frank Commissioner’s Cup and the Sadie Magee/Barbara Jacket Award for the third consecutive year. The Jackson State University Athletics Department claimed the C.D. Henry Award to round out the list of institutional winners. Alabama State claimed the James Frank Commissioner’s Cup after amassing 163.0 total points. Jackson State (147.5 points) and Southern (139.5) claimed second and third place respectively. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander named 2025 NBA Most Valuable Player

Courtesy of Sam Quinn, CBS Sports Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won the NBA’s 2024-25 MVP award, the NBA announced Wednesday night. Gilgeous-Alexander is now the seventh straight MVP winner to be born outside of the United States, joining Nikola Jokić (2024, 2022, 2021), Joel Embiid (2023) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (2020, 2019). He is the first Thunder player to win the award since Russell Westbrook did so in 2016, and with Kevin Durantin 2014, three Thunder players have been named MVP.  SGA got 71 of 100 first-place votes. Lawrence Taylor wants newly drafted New York Giants pass rusher Abdul Carter to create his own legacy, one that won’t include wearing the No. 56 that Taylor made famous during his legendary career.
