Bench shows up big in Rattlers’ first win on the season

CLINTON, S.C. —The Florida A&M men’s basketball team got a 30-point performance from the bench on the way to a 65-60 victory against the Presbyterian Blue Hose on the road Wednesday.

The Rattlers (1-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Love Bettis, who had 22 points. Shannon Grant tacked on 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks and Keith Lamar chipped in as well with 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Florida A&M did a great job disrupting Presbyterian shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Ja’Derryus Eatmon led the way individually for the Rattlers with two rejections.

How It Happened

After falling behind 26-23, Florida A&M went on a 13-0 run with 6:57 left in the first half to take a 36-26 lead. The Rattlers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 41-32 advantage. Florida A&M got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 17 of its 41 total points.

Florida A&M started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on a 10-0 run, finished off by Eatmon’s jumper, to grow the lead to 51-32 with 14:56 to go in the contest. The Blue Hose narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Rattlers still held on for the 65-60 win. Florida A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 13 of its 24 total points.
