What began as a night of celebration for Dallas Wings star Arike Ogunbowale quickly turned chaotic — and newly released bodycam footage shows just how tense the situation became.
Ogunbowale and several WNBA players were outside Miami nightclub E11EVEN in the early morning hours of March 5 when police moved to arrest the Wings guard following an alleged altercation inside the club.
Among those surrounding Ogunbowale was her Dallas teammate Paige Bueckers.
And within moments, Bueckers found herself staring down a police Taser.
WATCH: Taser Pointed Toward Paige Bueckers
The newly released bodycam footage, obtained by the California Post and reported by multiple outlets, captures the chaotic scene as officers attempted to take Ogunbowale into custody.
As an officer moved toward Ogunbowale, Bueckers put an arm around her teammate and repeatedly told the officer, “We got her.”
The situation escalated as more people gathered around the players.
The officer pulled his Taser and ordered the group to back away.
Bueckers remained next to Ogunbowale.
The footage then shows the officer pointing the Taser toward Bueckers and ordering her to let go of her teammate.
Eventually, Bueckers and the others stepped away, allowing officers to take Ogunbowale into custody.
Unrivaled host Maria Clifton could also be heard protesting the arrest, saying, “Stop it. Do not put handcuffs on her. Are you kidding me? She’s a champion.”
What Happened to Arike Ogunbowale?
According to police reports cited by multiple outlets, Ogunbowale was accused of punching a nightclub security staffer during the incident.
She was arrested and booked on one misdemeanor battery charge before posting $1,000 bond.
The case ultimately did not move forward. Court records show the charge was dismissed in May.
Ogunbowale’s attorney, Mitch Schuster, said at the time that the State Attorney’s Office had elected not to proceed with the case.
The Bodycam Footage Changes the Picture
The original arrest was already notable because of Ogunbowale’s status as one of the WNBA’s established stars.
But the newly released footage shifts attention toward what happened around her.
Bueckers was not the subject of the arrest, yet she became directly involved when she attempted to remain with her teammate. The footage shows the encounter escalating from a group surrounding Ogunbowale to an officer deploying his Taser and directing it toward Bueckers and Young.
The moment lasted only seconds, but the footage provides a striking look at how quickly the situation outside the nightclub became confrontational.
For Wings fans, it is an uncomfortable flashback involving two of the franchise’s biggest stars — and a moment that was captured entirely on police bodycam.
