RALEIGH, N.C. – Bowie State women’s volleyball concluded the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up in Raleigh, N.C. with something to cheer about as the Bulldogs earned a 3-0 sweep over Livingstone Sunday afternoon inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (7-8, 4-6 CIAA) defeated the Lady Blue Bears (0-12, 0-9 CIAA) in straight sets by the scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-18. The victory snapped a four-game-losing skid for BSU who suffered a 3-2 setback to Fayetteville State Sunday morning and a 3-1 loss to Claflin on Saturday.

Graduate senior Jailyn Ivey (Bowie, MD) had 12 kills and five digs in the win over Livingstone. Junior Lindsey Grossman(Albany, OR) recorded 19 assists, six kills and five digs while junior Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) captured 11 digs in the winning effort.

As for the opening match of the round-up, Bowie State suffered a 16-25, 20-25, 25-17 and 17-25 decision to Claflin. The Lady Panthers turned in a .243 hitting percentage to go along with 43 kills and 18 service aces while the Bulldogs were responsible for 34 kills on a .175 hitting percentage. Ivey finished with 11 kills, including eight service aces while Grossman added 10 kills and nine digs which tied with Washington defensively as well.

Bowie State took Fayetteville State to five sets Sunday morning. The Broncos claimed the first set 25-21 and the third (25-15) but BSU had a response in the second, capturing a 25-21 win and forcing the fifth set with a 25-21 stand in the fourth frame. BSU pulled within one on a kill from sophomore Abrielle Scrivner (Odenton, MD) as the score showed an 11-10 edge for FSU but the Broncos used a 4-1 run to secure the five set thriller. Ivey and Grossman contributed 17 and 12 kills, respectively. Grossman turned in 18 assists and 12 digs for her third triple double of the season while Washington tacked on 17 digs.

Bowie State returns home to A.C. Jordan Arena for its non-conference finale with Salem on Oct. 12 at 6 p.m., and then a rematch with Elizabeth City State on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.
