Jordan Brand continues to dig into its basketball archives, as Carmelo Anthony’s second signature sneaker, the Jordan Melo 5.5, is expected to return in Summer 2027 for the first retro release in the model’s history.
Originally released during the 2005 holiday season, the Melo 5.5 arrived at a time when Anthony was emerging as one of the NBA’s brightest young stars with the Denver Nuggets. Rather than featuring an entirely original design, the sneaker followed the blueprint established by the Melo 1.5, blending iconic elements from the Air Jordan line. The Melo 5.5 combined styling cues from the Air Jordan 5 and Air Jordan 6, creating a performance silhouette that became one of the era’s standout basketball shoes.
The expected return is reportedly the original “Black/University Blue” colorway, highlighted by a black nubuck upper with University Blue accents inspired by the Nuggets’ team colors. Early reports indicate the shoe will carry a retail price of $155.
The retro is another sign that Jordan Brand is embracing the signature models that helped define the early 2000s. For longtime sneakerheads, the release offers a chance to own one of Carmelo Anthony’s most beloved on-court sneakers, while a new generation will get to experience one of the foundational models in the Melo signature line.
Additional release details, including an official launch date and retailer list, are expected to be announced closer to Summer 2027.
