Isaiah Thomas to have hip surgery

Earlier today the Los Angeles Lakers announced that point guard Isaiah Thomas will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his injured right hip Thursday. According to ESPN.com’s Adrian Wojnarowski Dr. Bryan Kelly of the Hospital for Special Surgery, who will be performing the surgery, had this to say: We will be doing a minimally invasive procedure to ‘clean up’ the joint of all inflammatory debris related to his injury from last season. LiAngelo Ball enters the NBA Draft

LiAngelo Ball has declared for the 2018 NBA draft. The 19-year-old formally submitted paperwork to enter the upcoming draft. Ball is expected to workout for several NBA teams and will take part in the Pro Basketball Combine at IMG where team executives will be in attendance. Ball played for the Lithuanian team Vytautas Prienu this past season along with younger brother LaMelo. LiAngelo is currently averaging a league-high 15.7 PFG. He also averaged 2.9 rebounds per game and connected on 45 percent of his three-point shots.

IT leaves Lakers to seek options for hip

Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reported earlier today that Lakers’ point guard has left the team to get medical opinions on his hip. Trudell reports that Thomas has been dealing with pain in the hip and is traveling to New York to explore what can be done solve the issue. This injury was what knocked Thomas out of last year’s playoffs, kept him out until January 2, and currently has him looking like a shell of his former self. Tennessee State’s Dana Ford to take Missouri State job

Sources have told ESPN that Missouri State is expected to hire Tennessee State’s Dana Ford as its head coach. He replaces Paul Lusk whose ballclubs never finished higher than third in the Missouri Valley Conference. Coach Ford has been at TSU’s helm for four season. Though he has an overall record of 57-65, he has gone 52-39 since a 5-26 record in his first year. He has lead the Tigers to records of .500 or better in the last three seasons. It was going to happen at some point and tonight it did- a 16 seed beat a 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. The University of Maryland-Baltimore County defeated the overall no.1 seeded Virginia 74-54 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament tonight. For the second consecutive year the Texas Southern Tigershave seized the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. One half of the matchup of the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship has been set. Arkansas-Pine Bluff advanced by defeating Southern 71-65 earlier this evening. UAPB enjoyed a 19-11 lead before Southern blitzed them with a 19-4 run to put the Jaguars up 30-23.
