Texas Southern’s on fire shooting in the second half to claim victory over Alabama State 90-76 and advance to the semifinals of the SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournamemt. The second seeded Prarie View A&M Panthers dispatched the seventh seed Alcorn State 87-71 last night in the opening round of the SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournament. Prarie View’s J.D. Eddie Reese had 21 big points for the Southern Jaguars but it was his last point that proved to be the most critical. The Claflin University took the 2018 SIAC Men’s tournament crown by defeating Clark Atlanta University 69-61 in the championship game. Clark-Atlanta rallied from 13 down to defeat Claflin and earn a spot Saturday’s SIAC championship game. Despite their All-Conference and All-American forward Brandon Morris picking up two early fouls, Benedict was able to build a ten-point halftime lead off the strength of blistering shoot from behind the arc. The Benedict College Tigers advanced to the next round of the SIAC tournament by defeating the Central State Marauders 70-66 in overtime. Earlier today the Morehouse Maroon Tigers earned a spot in the SIAC tournament semifinals with a 82-75 victory over the Fort Valley State Wildcats. The Tigers’ efforts were spread eased by Keyshawn Jacobs and Jordan Wallace, combined for 36 points of the Morehouse bench.
