The CIAA Student-Athlete Spotlight presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors continues this week by featuring Janina Mayers of Saint Augustine’s University. Mayers is a junior women’s volleyball student-athlete from Christ Church, Barbados. She is an exercise science major and maintains a 4.0 grade point average.
Athletic Accomplishments:
Volleyball – Finished 2nd in the CIAA with 4.37 digs per set in 2019
Volleyball – Led the Lady Falcons in total digs (223) and digs per set in 2019
Volleyball – Recorded 20 or more digs in four matches, including a season-high 28 against Lincoln (PA)
Volleyball – Named CIAA Defensive Player of the Week in Week 10 of 2019 season
Something unique most people wouldn’t know about you:
“I competed in gymnastics and body fitness competitions when I was younger.”
Your goals or plans after finishing school:
“I would like to pursue a career in Physical Therapy and start working with athletes and rehabilitation.”
Your greatest inspiration:
“My biggest inspiration is my mother because regardless of the situation or circumstance she always makes the best out of it.”
What do you love the most about being a student-athlete your school?
“I love being a student-athlete at my school because everyone here at Saint Augustine’s University is very supportive and they push you to become better both on and off the court.”
