Up next, the CIAA Student-Athlete Spotlight, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors, features Darrell Dyson II of Virginia State University. Dyson is a sophomore men’s cross country student-athlete from Chesterfield, VA. He is a computer engineering major that maintains a 3.2 grade point average.
Athletic Accomplishments:
Cross Country – A member of the runner-up team at the 2019 CIAA Championships
Cross Country – Earned All-CIAA Honors after finishing 8th at the 2019 CIAA Championships with a time of 28:17.1
Something unique most people wouldn’t know about you:
“One thing that is unique about me that I feel like not many people know is that I write poetry. I consider it a hobby and I mainly write about social justice, love, relationships, and self-worth.”
Your goals or plans after finishing school:
“My goals are to have a loving wife and kids, stable job and pay. And to give back and take care of family and friends who helped me get to where I’ll be at.”
Your greatest inspiration:

What do you love the most about being a student-athlete your school?
“What I enjoy the most about VSU is how busy it keeps me, and how much fun it brings to the table. It brings the best out of everything I do on the track, classroom, physically and mentally.”
