The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Bethune Cookman’s Joe French and Mississippi Valley State’s Robert Carpenter for SWAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during non-conference play this past week.
Player of the Week
French led the Wildcats with a career week offensively, scoring 55 points in two games. French scored 25 points against Liberty on 47-percent shooting with five three-pointers. He followed that game with an explosive career-high 30-point outing at nationally ranked No. 21 Seton Hall. French led all scorers on 12-21 shooting with four three-pointers while adding four rebounds.
Impact Player of the Week
Carpenter posted game and season-highs in points (27), field goals (10), three-pointers (5) and blocks (2) while recording a season-best seven rebounds plus two free throws to guide the Delta Devils to a halftime lead over SEC foe Ole Miss. He played all but 60 seconds during the contest while shooting 52.6% (10-of-19) from the floor and 71.4% (5-for-7) on three-pointers while committing just one turnover versus the Rebels. In the contest at Vanderbilt, Carpenter led the Devils with 11 points and a season-high eight rebounds along with a pair of three-pointers, a steal and a 5-of-6 effort from the free throw line.
