Dedric Boyd has record-tying game in win over Bryant

NASHVILLE — Dedric Boyd scored 29 points and tied the Tennessee State University single-game record with nine made 3-pointer in a 99-78 win over Bryan at the Gentry Center on Saturday afternoon, 

The Tigers (7-5) had four players score in double figures. Fitzgerald Jr. tacked on 21 points, six assists, and three steals and Christian Brownhelped out with 16 points.

The Tennessee State offense made hay from beyond the arc, making 15 threes on 38 attempts. Boyd hit nine treys for the Tigers in the contest.

Tennessee State forced 16 Bryan turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Saturday’s game. The Tigers turned those takeaways into 22 points on the offensive end of the floor. Fitzgerald Jr.’s three steals led the way for Tennessee State.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 33-26 advantage, Tennessee State went on a 10-0 run with 8:04 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Boyd, to increase its lead to 43-26. The Tigers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 53-37 advantage. Tennessee State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down nine shots to account for 27 of its 53 points.

Following intermission, Tennessee State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 68-49 before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Adong Makuoi’slayup, to grow the lead to 77-49 with 10:44 to go in the contest. The Lions narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Tigers still cruised the rest of the way for the 99-78 win. Tennessee State got out on the break in the period, scoring 15 fast break points.
