Eurobasket News: France cuts William Howard

Friday the French Federation of Basketball announced that William Howard was cut from the senior national team.

The 28-year-olf forward was cut after the last friendly game against Belgium, which France won, 90-71.

This trim the French team down to 12 players, which is the roster size allowed by FIBA rules. Though they are at the required size, the squad is not cemented as the team is waiting to see if Moustapha Fall and Andrew Albicy can recover from their injuries in time to play in the upcoming international competitions.

“The France national team or not, there is a team also waiting for them,”“Their recovery is in progress. Neither has been medically cleared. And it is not entirely up to us.”

French National Team Coach Vincent Collet, regarding Moustapha Fall and Andrew Albicy

As it currently stands, here is the French roster:

Evan Fournier (New York Knicks)
Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves)
Thomas Heurtel
Mouhammadou Jaiteh (Virtus Segafredo Bologna)
Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (Atlanta Hawks)
Theo Maledon (Oklahoma City Thunder)
Amath M’Baye (Anadolu Efes)
Elie Okobo (AS Monaco)
Vincent Poirier (Real Madrid)
Terry Tarpey (Le Mans)
Guerschon Yabusele (Real Madrid)

With a 5-1 record from the last round, France will begin Group K World Cup Qualifying games with matchups with the Czech Republic Wednesday and Bosnia-Herzegovina Saturday.

Following that will be Group B preliminary EuroBasket play in Cologne.
