FIBA News: Serbia spanks Germany, 83-56

Nikola Jokic’s dominance was on full display in Serbia’s 83-56 starching of Germany in Hamburg on Saturday. The back-to-back reigning NBA MVP scored 22 points on 10/11 FG and grabbed 5 boards in just 17 minutes as the Serbians took firet place in the 33rd Basketball-Supercup, relegating Germany to the runner-up spot.

Vasilijie Micic, who himself is the MVP of the last two Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Fours and the 2021 season MVP contributed 14 points.

Germany’sAndreas Obst led Germany with 12 points, Franz Vagner was held to just 5 points; Nick Weiler-Babb put in 2 points and 3 dimes. Germany was without team captain Dennis Schröder, who injured his ankle in the semifinal against the Czech Republic. German head coach Gordon Herbert indicated he is hopeful Schröder will be available next week for their World Cup Qualifiers against Sweden and Slovenia. The team is expecting Niels Giffey to be ready to go for the upcoming international competitions. Daniel Theis, however, will miss both of the World Cup Qualifiers and his EuroBasket status is questionable, as reported by eurohoops.net.

Next week, Serbia will host the first of their Group I World Cup European Qualifiers against Greece, followed by a trip to Turkey. That will be followed by play in Group D of EuroBasket in Prague, where they will match up with Poland, Israel, Finland, the Netherlands and host nation, Czech Republic.
