SIAC Announces October 3, 2022 Footballers of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (November 7, 2022) – Emanuel Wilson (Fort Valley State) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC)Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Chazz Hunter (Central State) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Monday.

Henry Tome (Savannah State) was also tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week alongside Reginald Harden (Benedict) who earned Newcomer of the Week.

OFFENSIVE – Emanuel Wilson, Fort Valley State | Running Back  |  R-Junior  |  Charlotte, N.C.

Wilson tore through the Albany State defense with 28 carries for 221 yards and three touchdowns. The North Carolina native also had three receptions for six yards for a total of 227 all-purpose yards to help FVSU win the Fountain City Classic for the first time in five years. Wilson’s 227 yards were more than the entire ASU offense who had 208 on the day. It was the redshirt junior’s second 200+ rushing game of the year to give him over 1300+ yards for the season.

DEFENSIVE – Chazz Hunter, Central State| Linebacker  |  Sophomore  |  Bedford, OH

Chazz Hunter led the way defensively for Central State in a 31-30 win over rival Kentucky State. Hunter had an impressive 24 tackles – the highest single game total by any Marauder in over a decade. He also recorded a sack and a forced fumble in the victory.

SPECIAL TEAMS – Henry Tome, Savannah State| Kicker  |  Sophomore  |  Beaufort, S.C.

The No. 2 punter in the SIAC helped Savannah State to a 44-38 win over Lane on Saturday, punting six times for a total of 225 yards, averaging 37.5 yards a punt with two inside the 20-yard line. His longest was a 58-yarder. Tome also nailed a 34-yard field goal in the second quarter to tie the game at 24 into the half. He averaged 56.6 yards on seven kickoffs.

NEWCOMER – Reginald Harden, Benedict| Wide Receiver  |  Sophomore  |  Jacksonville, FL

Transfer from Florida State had three receptions for 113 yards and two touchdowns in Benedict’s 54-21 victory over Allen.
