FIRST LOOK: “Charcoal” Air Jordan VII Returns in 2027

The “Charcoal” Air Jordan VII is currently expected to return on February 20, 2027, with a retail price of $215. The release is set to arrive during NBA All-Star Weekend and will bring back one of the most recognizable colorways from the early Jordan Brand era.

Originally released in 1992, the black-based Air Jordan VII features Dark Charcoal, True Red and purple accents that helped make the colorway instantly recognizable.

And while the sneaker is often referred to today as the “Playoffs” or “Raptors,” Sneaker Shop Talk sticks with the original “Charcoal” nickname.

A True OG Classic

The “Charcoal” Air Jordan VII has legitimate Michael Jordan history behind it.

MJ wore the colorway during the 1992 NBA Playoffs, including the 1992 NBA Finals against the Portland Trail Blazers. That series produced one of the most legendary moments in Jordan’s career when he erupted for six three-pointers in the first half of Game 1 before famously shrugging his shoulders.

The colorway originally released before the Toronto Raptors entered the NBA. The “Raptors” nickname became popular years later because the sneaker’s black, red and purple color palette resembled the team’s early colors.

But for those who remember the OG era, these are the Charcoals.

2027 Return

The upcoming retro is expected to maintain the classic black-based look, with Dark Charcoal, True Red and purple detailing throughout the shoe. The release will also arrive as the Air Jordan VII celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2027.

The last major retro release of the colorway came in 2012, making this a highly anticipated return for longtime Jordan collectors.
