The Grambling State University football program is doing a nine-part series, as we look to breakdown each position. Today, we take a look at the linebackers.
Position Coach:Cedric Thornton
Position coach Cedric Thornton is no stranger to building good defenses. The associate head coach and defensive coordinator was known for building championship winning defenses while at Alcorn State. He has a great mix of newcomers and returners as the Tigers prepare for the season opener at Arkansas State.
Thornton spoke about the relationship with the linebackers and their development through fall camp.
“Those guys have been awesome,” Thornton said. “They’ve been eager to learn and I have been doing the best I can to help they grow in the position.”
Thornton said the main focus through fall camp has been physicality.
“We’ve got to be physical and pay attention to detail,” he said. “I think we will be successful if we can be physical on this side of the football. I just want to see the guys be the best. Don’t try to be extraordinary, just be ordinary. Be the best they can possibly be. That’s all I can ask for. I can’t ask them to be anyone else. I just want them to be the best them they can possibly be.”
