Prairie View A&M Game Notes | Grambling State Game Notes
DALLAS, Texas, – Prairie View A&M will face Grambling State in the State Fair Classic on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl.
Prairie View A&M came up short in a 45-41 road loss to defending SWAC champion Alcorn State this past weekend. PVAMU outgained Alcorn in total offense 508-405. Jalen Morton accounted for 366 total yards of offense (321 passing) and four touchdown passes as he completed 23-of-35 passes.
Dawonya Tucker shined with 128 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Tony Mullins recorded 84 yards on four grabs. Tristen Wallace led the team with seven catches for 79 yards, while Jordan Jones hauled in five passes for 75 yards.
Grambling State came up just shy of a win against Alabama State in their first SWAC contest of the season losing 23-20.
The second half of the game was a fight for the win as both teams scored two touchdowns each. After a few minutes had expired from the clock, a 55-yard rush by Jakarie Nichols moved Grambling State closer to the end zone. A touchdown was not scored, but Garrett Urban’s 21- yard field goal gave the Tigers their second lead of the game.
Grambling State leads the SWAC with 25.7 first downs per game. Prairie View A&M ranks number one in the contest in third-down conversion percentage, as the Panthers are successful on 44.6 percent of its third-down attempts (25-of-56), just ahead of Grambling State (20-of-45, 44.4 percent).
This is the 71st meeting between the two teams and the 33rd meeting at the State Fair Classic.
