Howard’s Saniyah King named Rookie of the Week for 10th time

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its women’s basketball weekly awards where Howard University freshman guard Saniyah King (Washington) received the league’s Co-Rookie of the Week. The announcement came Monday afternoon.

King led the Bison to a perfect 2-0 week after wins over Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and at Morgan State (MSU), averaging 24.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals. Monday (Feb. 17), she tallied 24 points, five boards and a pair of steals against the Hawks. In Saturday’s road win at MSU, the D.C. native registered 25 points and two steals.

This season, King leads the MEAC with 4.8 assists per game, which ranks 49th in the country.

King shared MEAC Rookie of the Week with Delaware State forward Ericka Huggins.

Junior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) earned honorable mention after averaging 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in the victory over UMES and MSU.

Norfolk State guard Diamond Johnson was named MEAC Player of the Week while fellow Spartan senior forward Kierra Wheeler earned Defensive Player of the Week.
