Jackson State defeats Hampton 28-14 in Labor Day Classic

 Ahmad Miller scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns and earned Offensive MVP honors in a 28-14 victory over Hampton at the Hope Labor Day Classic on Saturday extending the nation’s longest streak to 11 games.

With the game tied at 14-all in the fourth quarter, Jackson State (1-0) used a 12-play, 82-yard drive to take a one-score lead on a two-yard from Miller. The Tigers got back on the board just 92 seconds later on a one-play drive ending with a 76-yard touchdown run by Miller to take a 28-14 lead with just four minutes remaining in the game. Miller finished the game 172 yards on just 10 carries and the two touchdowns.

Hampton (0-1) took an early lead on a three-yard touchdown run for its only lead of the game, and tied the game in the fourth-quarter on a 30-yard touchdown pass.

JaCobian Morgan finished the day 15-of-30 for 143 yards, connecting with five different receivers on the afternoon. Joanes Fortilienled the way with five receptions (eight targets) for 43 yards, while Nate Rembertfinished with four receptions (five targets) for 31 yards. Ja’Naylon Dupree added three receptions (six targets) for 41 yards, and Jency Riley Jr. returned after a season-ending injury last season to finish with two receptions for 21 yards.

Defensively, Quincy Ivory was named Defensive MVP after finishing with eight tackles, including four solo. He also finished with 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Reid Pulliamadded seven tackles, Shamar Hawkins added six, and Carmelo Jones finished with five in the win. 

Donovan Warren punted the ball seven times, averaging 44.7 yards per punt.
