Jackson State volleyball to open season at Sawyer Camillo MemorialĀ

The Jackson State volleyball team is set to open its season at Louisiana (Lafayette) in the 2024 Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers will face Murray State at 11 a.m., UL at 6 p.m. on Friday, and UT Arlington on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Jackson State finished last season 17-13 overall and 10-6 in SWAC play. The Tigers defeated Alabama A&M (3-1), Alabama State (3-1), and Florida A&M (3-0) to claim the 2023 SWAC Volleyball Championship title. JSU closed out its season at Wisconsin in the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers are picked to finish first in the SWAC Preseason Poll. JSU had five Tigers named to the All-SWAC Preseason Team including Preseason Setter of the Year, Karys Dove.
Dove led the Jackson State volleyball team in conference preseason honors being named SWAC Preseason Setter of the Year. Hope Briggs and Naija Gadis were named to the first team while Alexis WilliamsTrinity Bryant, and Dove were named second team.

Dove played in 27 matches for Jackson State last season and notched 528 assists on the season. A force at the setter position, she surpassed 1,000 career assists, wrapping up the season with 1,034. Dove registered 159 digs, 23 aces and 10 kills in 2023. 

Murray State concluded the 2023 season 13-14 overall and 7-11 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Racers will open their season against Jackson State Saturday morning.

Louisiana finished last season 19-13 overall and 9-7 in Sun Belt action. The Ragin Cajuns ended their season falling 3-0 to Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt Tournament. UL will open its season against Jackson State on Saturday evening.

UT Arlington rounded out 21-11 overall and 9-7 in WAC play last season. The Mavericks ended the 2023 campaign falling to UTEP in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship .

The Tigers will take on Murray State at Earl K. Long Gym Friday. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
