Kyrie Irving suffers season-ending ACL tear

The worst-case scenario when Kyrie Irving was helped off the court have been confirmed Tuesday morning as it was reported by Shams Charania that Irving has torn his ACL and will thus miss the remainder of the season.

Last night in the first quarter of their game against the Sacramento Kings, Kyrie bumped knees with Jonas Valančiūnas. While that can hurt a player, the buckling of his left knee on the subsequent step was the cause for alarm. Irving went down in a heap before being helped up by Anthony Davis and a trainer, subsequently shooting a pair of free throws before being helped to the locker room.

The loss is a major blow to a Dallas team who traded franchise cornerstone Luka Dončić for Anthony Davis, who suffered an abductor strain in his first game and is still out.

Irving, a 9-time All-Star and 3-time All-NBA performer was averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists on .473/.401/.916 splits.
