Langston’s Xzavion Florence and Latty Harrington named SAC Players of the Week

The Oklahoma Ford Dealers Sooner Athletic Conference football players of the week sparked their teams to homecoming victories Saturday. 

Larry Harrington (SAC offensive player of the week) and Xzavion Florence (defensive player of the week) powering Langston to a come-from-behind win Saturday in the Oklahoma Ford Dealers SAC game of the week, while SAC special teams player of the week Andre Reed fueled Louisiana Christian to victory. 


Offensive player of the week: Larry Harrington | QB | Sr. | Raleigh, N.C. 

Larry Harrington engineered a 21-point comeback in the Lions’ 44-38 overtime win over OUAZ, ranked 13th in the NAIA, at W.E. Anderson Stadium. Harrington fired four scoring passes, including a 23-yard touchdown to Ivory Wilwright to tie the game with 6:24 left in regulation and struck for a 66-yard touchdown rush early in the third quarter. Harrington threw for 385 yards on 24-of-41 passing and rambled for 67 yards on 18 carries. Harrington, who took his second career SAC offensive player of the week, has posted 1,824 yards and 19 touchdowns through the air with a 58.6 percent completion rate this year.

Defensive player of the week: Xzavion Florence | DB | So. | Dallas 

Xzavion Florence provided the winning touchdown by recovering a fumble and bolting 93 yards for the winning score. Keelen Ellison forced the ball away from Kristopher Ewens at the Langston 15-yard line. Florence notched four tackles and a pass breakup Saturday. Florence has contributed 21 tackles and two interceptions this season.

Special teams player of the week: Andre Reed | LB | Jr. | Basille, La. 

Louisiana Christian employed trickery to knock off 20th-ranked Texas Wesleyan 33-9 on Saturday in Pineville, La. The Wildcats struck for an early touchdown on a fake punt as Andre Reed threw to Daylon Charles, who raced 83 yards for a score 1:37 into the contest.  

Other nominees: Nestor Higuera, Arizona Christian; Octavio Resendiz, Langston.
