WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Howard Bison are facing significant uncertainty surrounding two of their most important offensive contributors as the 2026 football season approaches its final stretch.
Head coach Ted White confirmed that quarterback Ja’Shawn Scroggins will miss the remainder of the season, while running back Eden James’ availability remains uncertain following an injury-related setback.
Speaking during a media call, White provided an update on both players and acknowledged the importance of their roles in Howard’s offensive production.
“Ja’Shawn is out for the year. Eden James is still up for discussion. [He] wasn’t moving around that well this morning and we just have to be able to make some anterior plans to play without him. Those two are the guys that we really depend on to make this offense go,” White said.
Scroggins officially out for the season
Scroggins’ season-ending injury is a significant blow to the Bison offense.
The quarterback’s absence forces Howard to move forward without one of its primary offensive contributors as the coaching staff evaluates its options under center.
James’ status remains uncertain
While Scroggins’ season is officially over, James’ situation remains fluid.
White indicated that James was not moving particularly well during the morning evaluation, leaving his availability in question.
The coaching staff is preparing for the possibility of playing without the running back, although White did not rule out his return.
James’ potential absence would create another major challenge for Howard, particularly given his importance to the team’s ground game.
Two important pieces of Howard’s offense
White’s comments underscored just how important both players are to the Bison’s offensive identity.
Losing Scroggins for the season and potentially having to play without James would require significant adjustments from the coaching staff and the remaining offensive personnel.
For now, Howard must prepare for the possibility of moving forward without both players while awaiting further clarity on James’ condition.
Sneaker Shop Talk will continue monitoring Howard’s injury situation as additional information becomes available.
